Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) finally gave me a newsworthy excuse to write the following words: Google ‘Santorum.’

When you do, you’ll find that GOP presidential candidate’s campaign website falls far, far below an entry for the sexual neologism coined in his honor (this being a family newspaper, you’ll have to read it yourself), and several more pages describing the conflict between him and columnist Dan Savage that resulted in the offending Google bomb. In short, after the then-senator in 2003 compared gay sex with bestiality and incest, Savage held a contest to, well, redefine the word ‘Santorum.’ Thus, capital-S Santorum has pulled up the rear behind small-s santorum for the better part of 10 years.

I can’t really say whether Santorum is right to feud publicly with Google. But it is satistisfying to know that not even a presidential campaign (if moribund) can undo the damage caused by righteously indignant gays. So if Google refuses to help him, there is a way for Santorum to fix his santorum problem: Stop being so proudly anti-gay.
