Wednesday’s blog post on Meg Whitman generated dozens of comments, which is no surprise since it had to do with her recent statement on immigration -- and immigration always gets comments. But when I signed on to look at them Wednesday night, it turned out that the comments weren’t about immigration at all.

Instead, the conversation had been hijacked by the person who wrote the following: ‘It’s good to see the Quaker Oats guy in the news again.’

This led to much hilarity and discussion. LOL seemed to be the general consensus. Apparently many of our readers see a strong similarity between the former gubernatorial candidate and the familiar face from the Quaker Oats box.

I hadn’t heard the comparison before, but when I Googled it I quickly realized that others have long known of this apparent separated-at-birth phenomenon. There are various images on the Web comparing the two side-by-side, or actually putting Whitman’s image onto the box. Here’s one site, which actually postulates that Meg Whitman looks like a combination of the Quaker Oats guy and the Little Dutch Girl. See what you think.

We’re not endorsing this line of teasing. Whitman is not even a candidate anymore. But we’re willing to mention it because likening Whitman’s visage to the genial icon of a beloved breakfast cereal really isn’t all that cruel when you think about how dirty politics can get.
