Opinion: Technology: TSA’s new scanning device should satisfy airplane travelers

Remember when the editorial board told airplane travelers to ‘Shut up and be scanned’? Even though the editorial presented a reasonable argument for why the public ought to accept the TSA’s new security measures, it just seemed to fan the flame among those who were outraged over their two invasive options: walk through a scanner that creates an image of your unclothed essence or get a pat-down by a TSA employee. The hubbub has died down since Thanksgiving travel season, but the TSA is still working on an even newer technology that would create an image that looks more like a coloring-book figure than a creepy nude photograph. It will be interesting to see if this new scanning device will be enough to satisfy travelers concerned with safety.

The good news about airport body scanners, besides the whole public safety thing
