It’s open to debate whether former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty violated post-Tucson standards of civility when he called President Obama ‘chicken’ for allegedly evading hard issues in his State of the Union address. But Pawlenty’s crack certainly lacks the stateliness of ‘You lie.’ In fact, it suggests the schoolyard, not the campaign trail or the halls of Congress.

Perhaps Obama should take a page from Pee Wee Herman’s script and reply: ‘I know you are, but what am I?’
