As is tradition, the editorial board published its annual wish list on Jan. 1. This year’s 34 requests include single-digit unemployment, significant reduction in U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and hopes for China to rein in North Korea. Readers, of course, chimed in with their requests too. Among them:

‘For the Progressive-backed Dems to realize that ‘Tax and Spend’ is not the answer to everything,’ hopes Erisian, who also added, ‘For our congresscritters to enact real healthCARE reform and not health INSURANCE reform.’

‘A little realism on energy--we’re going to need oil for the foreseeable future, and certainly in my lifetime. If we have oil in our country and we can get it without major environmental damage, we should,’ asked Flyingbug,

‘For the posters in the Times comment section to stop yelling at and calling each other names and start debating the issues like adults with some manners,’ requested areeda. Hear, hear.

Of course, not all of the commenters played nice.

‘Wow...the Times editorial board wish list matches the wish list of Reid, Pelosi, Rangel, Frank, Waters, Olberman, Maddow, Schultz, O’Donnell, Matthews, Boxer, Feinstein, snd Obama’s,’ tommythek50 quipped.

‘Leftist to the bitter end,’ added res08hao1. ‘My 2011 wish is for the leftist Times to swirl down the drain.’
