Pick Lou Dobbs' next gig

November 12, 2009 | 11:59 am

LOU! Perhaps CNN was growing tired of Lou Dobbs lying about those dirty, leprosy-infected illegals from Mexico, or railing against newspapers for being so distracted by May Day immigration protests that they neglected to notice -- when they actually did notice -- that May 1 is officially Law Day. Whatever his concrete motives, Dobbs is out at CNN, having offered the following to his viewers Wednesday as a reason for his abrupt departure: "And some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving, as well as to contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day." You have to admire a man who wants to be a real doer.

So how should Dobbs make the world a better place for Americans? I've offered a few likely jobs below from off the top of my head; if you feel this list is incomplete, feel free to leave your suggestion as a comment.

Where ever he goes, it will be a lot better place than where he was before.

Because (you see?) when you leave CNN, there is no where else to go but up.

Bill Hemmer, Great van Sustran and Glenn Beck are excellent examples :)

2.

Boy, reading the posts from the great melting pot of Ohio. Sure alot of hating goin' on out there on the left coast. Maybe yuse that hate Mexican immigrants so vehemently should go down and take over THEIR country. That'll learn em.

3.

I'm gonna miss Lou. He is one of the few main-stream journalists that isn't afraid of the pro-crime ethnocentric groups that toss rhetorical grenades at anyone who's honest enough to call criminals 'criminals'.

He continually points out that the ones trying to make 'illegal alien' synonomous with 'hispanic' are those same pro-crime ethnocentrics.

And last but not least, he's not afraid of being tagged 'racist' and 'xenophobe'(a racist xenophobe who chose to marry a *legal* hispanic immigrant).

And now, CNN presents 'Latino in America" without once mentioning how many 'latinos in America' are using stolen IDs, committing bank and credit fraud, lying on documents, and driving without license or insurance. After all, now that Dobbs is gone, everyone at CNN is free to pretend that even illegal 'latinos' have as much respect for the law, and are as dedicated to the ideals of the US as any citizen or immigrant that respects and obeys the law.

Their own little kingdom of crazy.

I can not find one so called lie from his reporting, I look at the information displayed by LULAC, NCLR, and other immigrant rights organizations, than I look at information from the Heritage foundation, SPACE and other so called no partisan think tanks.

I look at the governments own reports about illegal immigration, and its plain and simple, the cost to Americans is too great to just lay down and let this continue at the rate it is going.

Maybe that is why the President, and Congress have not made this a priority, well except for those Hispanic's in leadership that keep pressing it, because other leaders of different cultures are not voicing legalization like they are.

I am not so easy to write Lou Dobbs off, what may seem a loss to some, could simply be a strategy building step to political office, I have no doubts Lou could win a Congressional seat in any moderate state in the union, and have a greater national form than CNN, because the air time coverage potential from a political seat would not only be national, but local all across the nation.

I am not a republican, I just enjoy real news, investigative reporting, that used to be the engine that drove news sources, unfortunately many have settled for simply telling us what special interest, biased politicians, and professionals feed them.

Its sad I tell you, and I think that is why on line news sources is taking off. internet savvy users are looking for real news, why the papar dragons are being dragged by the ear.

Times are a changing. Those not accepted are those not willing to accept the direction this country is headed. This is still a great country, but a new country. A new country filled with people who love and care for each other regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference or the color of their skin. Those who do not fit this profile are being brought to a bright light and to justice. Their days are numbered.

6.

Lou was too honest and too kind!! The hate mail stopped the day after some Illegal shot at him!!

DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS NOW!!! MAKE THEM TAKE THEIR CHILDREN WITH THEM!! FAIR ENOUGH!!

7.

It sickens me to think that in this country, if any of my American born and raised cousins decide to run for president, they will have to put up with ignorant bigots like him questioning their citizenship and bullying them simply because their parents were born elsewhere.

Lou Dobbs dignified? I think not.

Lou Dobbs belongs on (the tabloid that is) Fox News with every other paranoid right-wing demagogue on cable TV and hopefully CNN will replace him with an actual news journalist.

Anyways, I'm not too worried. If Rupert Murdoch goes ahead with his current plan, he will block Google from all of his news sites and the repercussions of that will hit News Corp like a deadly tsunami. Murdoch is notorious for being out of step with new media/technology and having ventures based on those things fail.
Fox News will eventually meet the same fate as MySpace. Right now it's wildly popular and gets high ratings, but people will tire of it and move on to something more practical, productive, simpler, and relevant.

8.

The only established culture by design of America is CHANGE and DIVERSITY. If you don't believe me then read the Federalist Papers, written and promoted by the Framers of the US Constitution. Federalist 10 extolls the need for a PLURALITY of interests, thereby checking the power of FACTION.

Frank

Uh, Frank, Madison is referring there to economic and regional interests, not DIVERSITY as it has come to mean today. How do we know? Because the very first substantive Federalist Paper, no. 2, "Concerning Dangers from Foreign Force and Influence" (wow, that John Jay sure was a xenophobe!), lays out what today would be called cultural and ethnic reasons the several states should unite:

"With equal pleasure I have as often taken notice that Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people -- a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence."

Now obviously things have changed since then -- although not nearly as much as people seem to believe, huge numbers of Americans can trace at least part of their ancestry back to Revolutionary times or the first decades of the Republic. At any rate it is simply wrong to think the Founders held DIVERSITY in today's sense as a value -- indeed quite the opposite.

9.

Dobbs could begin making the world a better place by turning his ranch, which sits on land stolen from Mexico by the United States, into a "underground railroad" haven for immigrants fleeing from abject poverty, whose only "crime" is trying to feed their hungry children.

That so-called poll on Lou Dobbs was an immature, cheap shot. Mr. Dobbs is a dignified, intelligent, even-handed, well-read and HONEST journalist. The problem is that most people only want to hear the truth when it's convenient. I hope he runs for office.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I enjoyed watching Lou Dobbs. He was intelligent, thoughtful and very analytical. However, you can be intelligent, thoughtful and analytical and be so wrong. I liked to watch his program to see what venom was going to be spewed for the day, and he never disappointed me. Of course it was all for rating and a pay check. Somehow, along the way, he started believing his own spew.

12.

Lou Dobbs next gig should as head of LA Times Editorial
Page where maybe he can restore dignity to your newspaper
and increase readership so we tax payers will not end up
bailing you out. You newspaper makes the NY Times
look good. I cannot deign any lower.

The only established culture by design of America is CHANGE and DIVERSITY. If you don't believe me then read the Federalist Papers, written and promoted by the Framers of the US Constitution. Federalist 10 extolls the need for a PLURALITY of interests, thereby checking the power of FACTION. Lou Dobbs represents a FACTION bent on changing the interpretation of the US Constitution from a living document to a relic. He is clearly not informed when it comes to US historical precedent. His type puts pride and arrogance before common sense and attempts to mock what is a core value that was established in the beginning of this country. It is hypocritical for anyone who is not a native American to insist that somehow it is not ok for people to immigrate here. Furthermore, for those of you that think Latinos have no place in America, the California Territory was owned outright by SPANISH settlers from MEXICO, given land grants by the King of Spain. Check the google maps and you will find the original rancho borders by their original owners names. This area was Latino long before the American settlers came here with their manifest destiny ideas.
Some uninformed people are leaving comments here implying that Latino culture is insular in the US. That is simply not true. As an English speaking Caucasian, I have never been refused service in any Latino business in any city, however I can not say that for other ethnicities whose businesses I have attempted to patronize.
Legalizing immigrants means they pay taxes. It means they will be able to establish businesses that can be taxed. It means that we as a nation have a larger pool of intelligence to draw from for invention, innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship. These are all things we need to prevent our decline to a third world country, which wont attract talent, but rather repel it. We ride the wave of delusional arrogance at our own peril.

14.

At what point would illegal immigration start offending the writer of this piece. Maybe we should let 12-29 million Canadians flood across the border and sign up for our brand new universal health care. Illegal immigration has ruined the education system and put a drain on every social program the US has to offer particularly the healthcare system. This has been the biggest slap in the face to legal immigrants and an absolute travesty to taxpayers.

15.

Better you should think about what YOUR next gig will do, when your biased, open-borders-promoting, money-losing rag finally goes down the drain. You'll be competing with all the other out-of-work "journalists" from WaPo, NYT, and Boston Globe who'd rather be ideologically correct rather than employed.

16.

"Any one who is planning on running for president would have to win the latinos to win..so get real by 1212 there will be a greater number of latinos to make a difference in a presidential election..Lou Dobbs will not have a chance.."

One can argue that most of the Latinos in the US are ineligible to vote anyway since most Latinos are not US Citizens/illegal.

17.

I think Lou Dobbs will slide into oblivion with Pete Wilson. Good riddance Lou!

18.

Wise Words from Lincoln
"Politicians are a set of men who have interests aside from the interests of the people and who, to say the most of them, are, taken as a mass, at least one long step removed from honest men" --Abraham Lincoln

What missing most from the media is objectivity. They bring bias in deciding what they report and how they report.

Lou was a welcome change.

19.

I was a fan of Mr. Dobbs for a long time. He was right-on in his defense of the two Border Patrol agents. He was right-on in his exposing the damage illegal immigration has done to this country, especially California. Something happened to him and he began to hate everything. He will probably end up at Fox, a good fit for his current state of mind. There, facts are an inconvenience and not to be worried about. It is unfortunate though, because he was right in his initial exposure of illegal immigration.

20.

CNN, the new state run news organization, has surrendered to PC. Now they can safely display their foulmouthed Cooper and show drivel news reports from reporters that argue with and criticize the people they are reporting news about. Racist La Raza and MALDEF will sleep peacefully tonight as well as the Democratic and Republican Senators and Representatives and Presidents that couldn't hide their nefarious deeds from Lou before Free Speech was annulled at CNN. ACORN, be of good cheer, your criminal activity can continue unnoticed now.

21.

To a lot of people ,who was telling that Lou is a lied in his program.
Merriam-Webster dictionary:
ILLEGAL- not according to or authorized by law : unlawful, illicit; also : not sanctioned by official rules.
Is this that difficult to understand? You people trying to defend CRIMINALS !

22.

our culture and country are forever damaged by the consequences of non-stop illegal immigration. what culture? american culture, a national identity that acts as a binder for our diversity. hispanic/latino presence in the u.s. is one of self-segregation, non-assimilation, low socio-economic achievement and huge cost. i am very pessimistic about a majority latino future in the u.s.

23.

It's been obvious to me since the mid 90's in L.A. what that "truth" is that everyone wants closetted: ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and its consequences have been a runaway train for 20 plus years. Critical Mass has been surpassed. Our culture and country are forever damaged.

24.

Lou Dobbs IS and Always will be a patriort.

25.

Lou Dobbs was one of the commentators who was worth lisnening to. He is a big loss for CNN. I am sure he will go on to better things where he feels there is a better enviroment to speak the truth.
