Bush fiddles, Earth burns

December 3, 2008 |  3:53 pm

Tailpipe_2 Last year, President Bush was quick to take credit when the Energy Department reported there was a drop in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2006. In a White House statement, Bush said:

We are effectively confronting the important challenge of global climate change through regulations, public-private partnerships, incentives, and strong economic investment. New policies at the federal, state, and local levels -- such as my initiative to reduce by 20 percent our projected use of gasoline within 10 years -- promise even more progress.

There's only one problem with the president's analysis: According to a report released today by the Energy Information Administration, the fact that greenhouse gases fell by 1.3% in the U.S. that year was mainly the result of unusually mild weather. In 2007, the EIA says, global warming gas emissions rose 1.4%, thanks to harsher climate conditions. In other words, the president's purely voluntary measures to fight climate change have had no discernible effect.

That won't come as much of a surprise to economists or climate scientists, who have widely dismissed voluntary programs as ineffective. But it should give President-elect Barack Obama and the incoming Democrat-controlled Congress some ammunition as they pursue more forward-thinking energy and pollution strategies than we've seen to date. According to today's Wall Street Journal, they aren't planning to waste much time: Among the legislative changes considered "low-hanging fruit" by Democratic leaders -- meaning items that could be accomplished quickly, perhaps within 100 days of Obama's swearing-in -- is a plan that would require the country to get 15% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020. Bring it on.

I do not believe in global warming!
And further more if Al Gore truly believed
in Global warming, he would be in Beijing
trying to convince the Chinese leaders and GW importance!
Count me out! I'm not green!

2.

Some time back I watched a show on the discovery channel about renewable energy sources. One segment showed the use of solar panels along the AutoBahn. Since tthey were put on road noise barrier walls, no additional structures were needed.
By incorporating installation costs for these panels into Mr. Obama's infrastructure plan, property taxes in California would not be affected. Since the walls are there to protect agaainst noise pollution, why not use them to also reduce air pollution and climate change.

Electricity and vehicle emissions are important, but California and the Obama Energy team are also going to have to include natural gas energy efficiency to their list.
20% or more of all natural gas consumed is lost into the atmosphere as HOT exhaust. This does not help global warming!
In California alone in 2006, industry consumed over 6 billion therms of natural gas. The food processing industry consumed 590 million of those therms.
The technology of "condensing flue gas heat recovery" is designed to recover most of that waste energy before it is lost into the atmosphere. For every therm of energy recovered 11.8 lbs of CO2 will NOT be emitted into the atmosphere. Instead of emitting hot exhaust gases, these exhaust gases will now be cool, some days even cooler than the outside air temperature. This will help in the battle of reducing global warming! This technology will also reduce their natural gas bills resulting in company profit.
Check it out.
