The Patti Smith-Barack Obama Experience

You'd have thought Patti Smith had been sleeping in her own bed for a month, not fresh off an Australian tour, judging by the show she put on at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown LA on Saturday night.

Still passionate and possessed of a voice of extraordinary color after all these years, the rock poetess laureate bestowed some of her eternally flaming energy on Barack Obama.

Restlessly prowling the stage with her band -- which includes her son, Jackson, and guitarist Lenny Kaye, who's been with Smith since the get-go -- she told the crowd sardonically that if she looked like she was moving a little slowly [she didn't], it was because she wanted to make sure that everyone missed ''Saturday Night Live'' -- the Sarah Palin version airing that night.

She exhorted people to vote, and in a simple phrase that evoked the poet William Blake, whose words she sings, she exhorted Obama himself to ''just be good -- be a good man.''

And the biggest crowd-pleaser: Smith flung about a half-dozen Obama t-shirts, like a bride's bouquet, into the clamoring crowd in the front-row seats.

1.

Patti, Ralph Nader could really use your help and support in the last 2 weeks before we get more "business as usual" from McCain or Obama.

Patti and her band delivered a powerful performance on Saturday night and the Orpheum is a stunningly beautiful venue. I'm eager for her next swing through town. And this Rolling Stones fan smiled broadly when the first three songs on Side 2 of Tattoo You were played before the band walked on stage.

haven't you wondered why the democrats always attacked palin? i think they lost out of touch with this race...if palin is not qualified, the more is barack...sigh...i think the voters just got to be wiser and smarter coz if you just listen to this democrats as if everything they say is true and factual but in reality they are just fooling the people..very deceiving...that's why i agree with the catholic bishop's attack on barack...barack is anti-life, anti-poor...how could you send someone to the presidency if he, himself is against the existence of a person especially those innocent, unprotected babies...besides the bishop is more credible than barack...the bishop promotes values and teachings from God not from a man's stand point of view...

4.

Rock singers... Is there anything they don't know?
