russia, georgia, mikheil saakashvili, vitaly churkin, george w. bush, iraq, rutten, opinion l.a., john edwards, john mccain, barack obama, national enquirer, rielle hunter, lobbyists, sacramento, elections, campaign finance, olympics, paris, traffic Tuesday's letter writers sound off on Times coverage of tensions between Russia and Georgia, John Edwards' affair, Sacramento lobbyists and why some people don't love Paris in the summer.

Olympics fan Lisa Bock, of Santa Monica, takes issue with Bill Plaschke's review of the Beijing opening ceremonies, writing:

The heat must have gone to Bill Plaschke’s head when he wrote his critique of the Beijing opening ceremony...Plaschke’s statement that "this show lacked real smiles, true laughter, visible heart" did not describe the ceremony I watched.

Maybe he had a bad seat.

As a Dutch citizen who has an American partner (a love exile), I am worried about the current political developments in the USA.
A recent Dutch poll showed that 67% of the interviewed don't think that McCain/Palin should win the race for the White House. At the same time over 80% of them are afraid that McCain/Palin will indeed win because of protesting Hillary Clinton supporters and low voter show up/turn out.
That really worried me. The USA, and the world for that matter, simply CAN NOT afford another Bush klone in the White House. Now, more than ever before, the USA and the world needs a Democratic Administration and that decision and heavy burden lies on the shoulders of the Clinton supporters. In fact protest voting for McCain by Hillary voters could be seen as betraying your country and is helping McCain/Palin to steal the presidency (again).
What we, here in Europe, fear is that:
1. there will be an increase in international tensions and as a result of that more terrorist attacks on and within the USA.
2. the dollar will fall against the euro (possibly even 2-1), which will harm both the US and world economy.
3. oil will surge to hights never seen before ($ 250> a barrel).

The majority of the American people do not want yet another 4 years of Republicans in the White House. In the past years there has been an outcry of anger against the Bush Administration and now that the Democrats have the chance of a landslide victory, the protest voters may very well give that away.
I, and the rest of the world, hope that they are aware of that.

At the Saddleback Forum, Obama quoted Jesus saying “what you do unto the least of the brothers you do unto Me” Then we find out he has a half brother living in a hut in Africa on 1 dollar a month. This is our champion for the poor? He lives in a mansion yet spouts off about how the rest of us should help the poor when he does not even help his own brother. Democrats picked another fake.
