With all the vote in, Commissioner Harvey Silberman won a squeaker against prosecutor Serena Murillo. Silberman will be one of five new Los Angeles Superior Court judges elected Tuesday. Also winning was incumbent judge Ralph Dau. Six judicial races have ended up in runoffs, extending the campaign season for 12 candidates to Nov. 4. They'll join supervisorial candidates Mark Ridley-Thomas and Bernard Parks, presidential candidates Barack Obama (if Hillary Clinton ever concedes) and John McCain, and as many as 10 statewide measures, on the November ballot.

The Times endorsed Murillo in this race, praising her "straightforward style [that] has earned her respect from criminal defense lawyers she faces in court as a prosecutor, as well as from her own colleagues and supervisors."
