Immigration déjà vu
The Washington Post's Spencer Hsu reports on a relatively new border enforcement strategy — smacking every would-be crosser with a criminal record, instead of just fingerprinting immigrants and turning them around:
First piloted in December 2005 near Del Rio, Tex., Operation Streamline requires that virtually everyone caught illegally crossing segments of the border be charged with at least a misdemeanor immigration count and jailed until they are brought to court and, if convicted, eventually deported. A conviction jeopardizes any future legal entry to the United States.
Federal officials credit the program and other measures for contributing to a 20 percent drop in apprehensions of illegal immigrants on the U.S.-Mexico border in 2007, to 859,000. That figure is on track to drop an additional 15 percent this year.
The article notes that apprehension statistics aren't always reliable, particularly when a slow economy is already deterring migrants. And some say the program is straining jail facilities and law enforcement resources. Still, the tactic will likely have an effect much like other border security measures: decreasing illegal immigration in the short run (but making it into a more dangerous gambit for those who decide to cross through more dangerous terrain), while quite likely negatively impacting the economy in the longer run.
If that point were ever contained in a nutshell, it's in this story. Or this one.

Guess you would say that daily bombardment of the Internet, shows that illegal immigration is a volatile issue that isn't going away. Our politicians promised 'No more Amnesties' after the 1986 Simpson/Mazzoli Immigration control act. But Ultra Liberal Ted Kennedy lied to the American people. Right now anti-illegal advocates are battling to bring the Federal Save Act (H.R.4088) to a vote, because like potentate speaker Nancy Pelosi trying to dismantle the original plans of the border fence. This Democratic lady and her minions are intimidating her moderate people not to sponsor this piece of legislation.
The author fails to mention that ALIPAC, NUMBERSUSA, AMERICAN PATROL, LIBERTY POST, GRASSFIRE,IMMIGRATION NEWS INDEXER, doesn't have the benefit of big business and the special interest lobby financing them. The soul donors to all the pro-sovereignty, anti-illegal immigrant organizations is the general public.
Our main problem now is potential President Obama stated in a previous speech, he would offer a path to citizenship. Which means a massive AMNESTY, for all the illegal aliens, who ignored our laws. The newspapers restrict information about the carnage within our communities and on the highways, by the criminal element that have also entered through our highly deceptive line--the government calls a border. Yet another deceptive report, is the numbers of illegal foreign nationals that have entered here. May be 5 years ago it was perhaps, 12 million. But today UNIPAC has estimated that the illegal population is at least 30 million.
Has anybody taken into consideration if another AMNESTY passes, what are going to be the ramifications of this law? It will mean an immediate rush towards the border, from either Canada or Mexico because they will be expecting a third AMNESTY...?
It's not bigotry or the race card..its about saving our way of life, the quality of life. It about millions of poor, illiterate people suddenly legal, able to steal the jobs of own poverty stricken citizens. The single Mums with children, homeless veterans back from an ugly war along with the sick and infirm and of course senior citizens. Would you not call it discrimination, when a Teacher with tenure loses her job because she doesn't speak Spanish.
If you listen to the pro-illegal immigration business funded groups, who talk about that it will be great for the economy? Perhaps you might ask an ailing California; a 'Sanctuary State' that has become a haven for illegal immigrants. Then read about Arizona that has shown a remarkable economic comeback, as illegal aliens have been fleeing owing to its new harsh employer sanction laws.
Overpopulation, congestion, urban sprawl, pollution, Water shortages, environmental damage, crime, diminishing resources, Diseases, lack of affordable housing, depressed wages, underground economic, fraudulent documents, identity theft, tax evasion, soaring crime rate, increased tax burdens, overcrowded schools, uneducated children, overcrowded prisons, inadequate health care, the balkanization of our communities and a large and growing population with loyalty to other Nations. The overall decline in our quality of life are the result of unrestrained illegal immigration! America cannot accept the worlds destitute population of other countries. Criminals, Undesirables and Uneducated people. Too many people chasing too few resources is not sound economic, social or cultural policy. This is not racism but pragmatism & common sense!
Every industrialized nation has taken steps to end illegal immigration and to limit legal immigration to only that which is prudent, demonstrably necessary, and above al! l other concerns, in the best interest of their native population. Its insane to suggest that America should not do likewise! England and Australia have adopted a points system, when it comes to immigration. You are just not going to get a working visa, unless you have valuable skills to offer that nation.
If we enact the SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) as an enforcement tool against illegal foreign nationals. Then they repatriate their person by ATTRITION. After that then we could adopt an orderly guest worker program, with no legal right to being a citizen. However, guest workers would receive a special preferences, but first must return to their home country. But then they could apply for legal residence. This is the way it must be...?
American patriots have beaten just by sheer numbers, each time a new AMNESTY has arrived into Washington for a vote. We must keep fighting, because the alternative is to be flooded with illegal foreign nationals, who know how to tap the welfare safety net, originally awarded to citizens and legal residents. If you believe for one minute that illegal foreigners don't know how to collect food stamps, because you must have legal status. Then how come the government extracts secretly squeezes 356 billion dollars billion dollars to support the invaders? Yet even that doesn't cover the costs to taxpayers, when you realize this should be the weighty burden that pariah business should be accountable for? Then can you imagine the strain on the Social Security system and pension for seniors?
The only way working class Americans are going to hold onto their jobs, is to demand their Democratic representatives endorse the SAVE ACT. Because it doesn't matter what your country of origin, businesses will take the easiest route to profits. All of us will suffer under the globalist open border, free trade agenda as they are in Europe. Today! It's a fight to keep our sovereignty against bad free market agreements. It's a ongoing battle against the momentum of overpopulation.
If small state laws like in Oklahoma and Arizona, has seen a definite change as thousands of foreign nationals have packed their bags and fled elsewhere. Just think what the all encompassing federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) could do for your states future?

Our country is turning into a Third World cesspool. Send the illegal alien leeches back to where they came from.

A ZERO tolerance towards ALL illegal immigration is the only way to end the massive invasion of our country. If you are illegal, go home and come back legally or not at all. Arrest, jail and deport EVERY illegal alien, period. No amnesty, no backroom deals, and no political special interest compromise. Enforce our laws NOW! Why do we have immigration laws? If we had an open border policy, the USA would become a third world nation. We would become the most populace nation on earth. Our current population would balloon up past that of China. We would immediately have half of Mexico , India and China here almost immediately. Most of the poor of Africa would also immigrate to the US. There would be no jobs for Americans because immigrants would do them for slave wages. American citizens wouldn't be able to stop the socialization of the US because hundreds of millions of immigrants would take over elections. It would be a sad and tragic end to the greatest nation this world has ever known. Thank you ICE for saving our country!

That's simply another way of saying that undocumented workers, or "illegal aliens" for those who prefer, are to be equated with citizens whose families get split upon law violations. The only such scenario would be in the case of severe felonies, like murder, in which the defendant gets a long jail term. Even so, it isn't a split, as in a split between two nations that lasts permanently. Moreover, in those cases it's probably in the interest of the rest of the family to be separated, since violent felons are actually potentially dangerous to them. There's a huge difference, that takes honesty to acknowledge. Illegal immigrants are immigrants that couldn't come legally. Most often for economic, not character related, reasons. But why expect honesty here when everybody lies or exaggerates, including on CNN.

We need to SAVE ACT set into LAW.
ICE needs to be able to focus on the SLAVE Business owners who caused all this grief. Heavy Fines and loss of their business licenses will send a powerful message.
Remove the sugar that is attracting the ants and they will leave on their own without the need for jails.
America only wants "LEGAL immigrants" and NOT ILLEGAL_ALIENS (CRIMINALS) to grow America bigger then ever before.
Join http://www.numbersusa.com and send FREE FAXES to your legislators to remind them that we LEGAL CITIZENS count and not ILLEGAL_ALIENS.
No AMNESTY and no JOBS for ILLEGALS.

(ICE) needs the assistance of plenty of Whistle Blowers in the 'Sanctuary City' of Los Angeles. People realise now that the Immigration & Customs Enfocement have a hot line, to communicate illegal activity, when it comes to hiring illegal foreign nationals

Stop with this Immigration ENFORCEMENT. Be real that Immigrant will bring you new investment and new oportunity for all AMERICANS. They will make this country biger than ever before.

I find it laughable that after all these years of zero enforcement the most anemic measures are met with cries to the heavens.
"Massive raids..sweeps..dragnets...Gestapo." Too funny. ICE arrested less than 5,000 people at workplace "raids' in all of 2007. They arrested about 30,000 fugitives that had already been ordered out of the country. Some are people that had simply lost their appeals to stay here, others are every kind of murderer, child molester and rapist. But many in the "immigrant community" don't even want to see the criminal scum thrown out.
As for picking up fugitives at their homes, so what? American citizens may get picked up by the police at their homes for so little as not paying their traffic tickets. And for the whiners that snivel about splitting-up families, get a clue. American families get split-up all the time because of the criminal and irresponsible acts of the parents.
A fence and tougher enforcement along the border will not solve our problem with those that have no regard for our laws but it will help.

*** "...while quite likely negatively impacting the economy in the longer run. If that point were ever contained in a nutshell, it's in this story..." ***
Market distortion - that's all the story about using illegals to build the border wall proves. Once you ruin and distort the economy with slave...er, illegal labor, it's hard to go back to normal. For the last 20 years especially the message that's been sent to Americans is that there are some jobs you shouldn't dive into the market for, because they're being overtaken by illegals.
Remove the illegals. Send a strong, clear message that these jobs are there for Americans, and that Americans won't have their wages undercut by mass immigration (legal or illegal) and you create a healthier economy in the long-run. The workers will come back. Market signals matter - these are things that even bitter rednecks understand.
As for the idea that the economy is strengthened by importing hoardes of uneducated, unskilled illegals? Laughable on its face. This modern economy needs fewer unskilled workers, not more.
In an agrarian and undemocratic society it might make sense to say "import lots of uneducated people to do the work for us." The economy would boom - in a situation where the owners didn't have to share the proceeds with the serfs. But in a welfare state democracy it makes no sense. The uneducated and unskilled immigrant siphons off more in government services than he pays for.

What a concept. Prosecuting those who break our laws. Humph! Why didn't we think of that before?
Posted by: franks | June 02, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Good news. Immigration ENFORCEMENT will surely supress invasions as the word gets out...you get caught, you go to jail then get deported.
You'd have to be stupid (or a libidiot illegal alien hugger) to think otherwise.
