Do lefty-owned homes burn easier than conservatives'?
CNN talk show host Glenn Beck today discussing the Southern California firestorm on his syndicated radio show, via William Campbell at blogging.la: "I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today."
Who knew those poor homeowners in San Diego, Orange County and the Inland Empire were pinko-commie America haters? Or did Beck forget that Southern California includes more than left-wing movie types who populate fire-ravaged Malibu? At least we can hope that Beck will rest his head on his pillow tonight assured that those devasted families who lost/will lose everything include a "handful of people who hate America." In fairness, he did say "unfortunately;" and, strangely, his comment was part of a larger manifesto on Americans uniting in their mutual respect despite their disagreement over politics. Read more and listen to an audio clip at Media Matters.
For a lesson on how fire burns differently based on the ideology of its fuel, look no further than Monty Python.

Wow...hearing Beck's comments literally made me sick. I love false patriotism! Calling others "America haters" while rejoicing as one of the most populated parts of America burns down? How ironic...

The general consensus is that those who choose to build/live in fire-prone areas should assume all costs of rebuilding there. Of course that won't be the case; insurance, FEMA, and other help in rebuilding will come from all of us taxpayers. But, I wonder how many Ayn Rand types who profess the belief that government shouldn't subsidize one's lifestyle will be among those in line for the public funds? Stand up and reveal yourselves!

Brian Sament said: "Why choose to think, Mr. Thornton, when you can let George Soros and his band of partisan, hateful freaks do your thinking for you?"
I find it Ironic (and hilarious) that Mr. Sament's accusation is nothing more than an echo of a (largely false) assertion that Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly have been pushing on their shows for ages.
I doubt that Mr. Sament could pick George Soros out of a lineup, or even describe what he actually does. And yet he feels free to repeat, verbatim, these attacks on Mr. Soros in a public forum. The mind boggles!
And yet somehow it's O'Reilly, Limbaugh and their listeners who keep pushing this idea that George Soros is doing other people's thinking for them. It's like being called braindead by a zombie!
AC
P.S. What do Limbaugh listeners proudly call themselves again?
Oh yeah: 'Dittoheads'.

To "Pasadena": William Campbell just reported those words, he didn't say them, and I'm pretty sure he opposed them. Your ire should be directed at Glenn Beck, who actually said "I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today."
If you are so motivated, you could call his synidcator, Premiere Radio Networks at (818)377-5300, and tell them that you are upset with Glenn Beck.

And by the way, Mr. Sament, as much as you would like it to be true, George Soros, has never given money to MediaMatters. Bill O'Reilly can say it as much as he wants, but it doesn't make it true. Documentation here.
Truth has never been an obstacle for O'Reilly though, has it?

Oh, heaven forbid that anybody should, you know, watch those who speak to the world via mass media. Because that is exactly what MediaMatters does, and all that Media Matters does. They back up every claim with footage, either audio or video, of exactly what they are talking about. Does FoxNews, or does Glenn Beck, back up what they are talking about. Does Glenn Beck tell you who exactly he's talking about that hates America? Does he give example of people that he calls America-haters? Of any actions which justify that rhetoric? Of course not.
The truth is that Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, and the FoxNews Mafia hate the truth. It gets in the way of their pro-Bush propaganda. So, Mr. Sament. why don't you just click that MediaMatters link and see exactly what they are about before you go off on MediaMatters. There's lots of information and references there, the truth might just set you free.
And Kudos to the Times for pointing out Mr. Beck's hate-filled rhetoric. He doesn't belong on the radio, on television, or even a podcast.

why should anyone care about the political background of someone who lost their home. William Campbell should leave Cali!!! We are better of without idiots like you.

I applaud you for linking to Media Matters, thus confirming what we already knew: that group is your source for matters political.
Why choose to think, Mr. Thornton, when you can let George Soros and his band of partisan, hateful freaks do your thinking for you?
