When Vicente Met Antonio

As the city shut down for the Memorial Day weekend, Mexican President Vicente Fox wrapped up his four-day U.S. tour in L.A. today the end of his first California visit in five years. Fox met with two leading local immigration-reform backers, Mayor Antonia Villaraigosa and Cardinal Roger Mahony, as well as labor leaders. The Times reports tomorrow that Villaraigosa tried to avoid talking about immigration, which he called a federal matter. The mayor stuck to his trade-mission talking points with reporters, while Fox said "a legal, safe, orderly immigration policy will benefit the security and prosperity of both our nations."
Spanish-language daily La Opinion reported that Fox applauded yesterday's Senate vote for comprehensive immigration reform, saying it would help the two countries focus their attention on security and economic growth. "We are your allies in the war against drugs and crime," he said in a meeting with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Yesterday Fox told reporters Mexico is "promoting economic growth and social opportunities so that migration is no longer a necessity," the Times noted. Since Fox was last in California, some 5 million people have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

The Fox and the Huntsman
The President of Mexico, Vicente Fox, has recently honored us here in Utah with his presence. I can’t make up my mind, is he "The Abe Lincoln of Mexico", or how about, "the Reagan South of the Rio Grande." If you believe what Fox said during his visit you’d understand my dilemma. I can just imagine, some day in the not so distant future, Fox at the border in Tijuana, bullhorn in hand, to the cheers of his constituents on both sides of the border demanding: "Senor Bush, Tear Down This Wall!!!" Who would have thought that Reagan's legacy would be so tarnished by his 1986 Amnesty. That amnesty, with its resulting shift in demographics, has lead directly to the 2006 amnesty, which will undoubtedly lead to future amnesties. And why not? All the principles that today’s amnesty is built on will certainly be equally valid in the future. Any limit on immigration is arbitrary and for some will be unfair. Thus the only solution is no limits on immigration for fairness sake, right? Heck, as anyone who has looked at the Senate bill knows, this is far better than amnesty. It’s amnesty plus. Illegals will not just get to stay here, but they come out way ahead financially with earned income credits, social security benefits, full access to our social safety net, affirmative action, and it assures their families will soon be joining them. Added to that is the enforcement and border security features included in the bill that have absolutely no teeth. So what you have today is a call to the 4 billion people around the world who would rather be here, “Come to America by any means possible. Laws? What laws? We’ll take care of you.” The red carpet is laid out. Oh that’s sensible immigration reform.
So May 25, 2006 will go down as a very dark day in the history of this once great nation. If you listened to the claims made in speeches given during his trip to Utah, the “Prime Minister of NAFTA”, Vicente Fox, has freed his people from the bondage of corruption that is Mexico, and opened the way to a better life here in the northern territory of America. Surely the "Great Mexican Emancipator" should be given the Nobel Peace Prize. And since he has worked so hard for the “civil rights” of Mexicans kidnapped from their homes and shipped against their will to the former United States as slaves, maybe we should honor this great "NAFTAn" with a supranational holiday, as we have done here in America for the civil rights hero Martin Luther King, Jr., who immigrant rights activists say they are carrying the torch for. It should be celebrated every May 1st as "Fox Day". And as a note to those people who affirmative action policies were created for, for the injustices of the past, you are about to be crowded out by the newcomers who under the current system will qualify for those benefits.
And while we are at it, since Bush wanted so much to dishonor the memory of those killed in American wars, fighting to protect their fellow citizens from external threats, by insisting that the Senate have a pro-amnesty/pro-invasion/pro-no border security, which all amounts to a no "national" security, bill ready by Memorial day, we should change the holiday to either "Invasion Day", or perhaps retain the name "Memorial Day" but celebrate it as day of remembrance for the country we lost. A day off to reminisce about a country who's founders gave this land a glorious gift, a government of Americans, by Americans, for Americans. Well that gift is being trampled on as we sit by watching American Idol.
So here in Utah, Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. says he is convinced that Fox is serious about immigration. I'm sure Fox is, in the same way that N. Korea is serious about acquiring nuclear weapons - as economic and political blackmail. The major issue in Mexico’s current Presidential race is who will be the strongest in standing up to the US the and force open the border. Wasn't NAFTA, beautiful NAFTA, oh the promise of NAFTA, supposed to relieve this illegal migration pressure? Well if you listen to Fox, and his statements are not subtle if you are paying any attention at all, what he is saying is, unless you Americans provide more economic stimulus, funnel more American tax dollars (btw, how many illegals pay income tax?), move more factories to Mexico, these 'migrants' will continue to come here and there is nothing you can do to stop it. No wall is high enough. (A special thanks goes out to Mexican Ambassador to the US, Arlen Specter, who added to the bill a provision that a wall cannot even be built without first consulting Mexico). This should be taken as a threat, a threat in progress, because the Mexican government does everything they can get away with to aid and push these illegals into the US. These efforts by the Mexican government almost pale in comparison to the work our noble politicians beholden to special interests here in the US. It is sickening that our Great Man of the People, the ‘self-made’ (ha!) Gov. Huntsman, buys into this sort of "say one thing \ do another" propaganda, which is the tradition of Mexican politicians. I am not so naive as to believe that Huntsman actually takes Fox's "commitment" on face value. The biggest problem with NAFTA, for those in Huntsman's class, was that it only incentivized the export of US factories to Mexico. But what about all those "high wages" they are "forced" to pay greedy American workers, protected by that antiquated “concept” called a national border, for the jobs that sadly just can't be exported? Today's vote solves that problem by opening the floodgates to cheap (cheap for exploiting business, expensive for everyone else) foreign labor.
Under the proposed immigration reform we are following the same basic economic policies as did the Antebellum South, and this will surely result in a similar disastrous effects. As today, the south set morality aside and opted for a cheap labor solution to it’s economic situation. Slave labor. This demand not only incentivized the devastation of African societies, destroyed the lives of the slaves themselves, but also hurt the prospects of poor whites living in the South as the value of their labor was greatly diminished. The only beneficiaries were the rich white plantation owning elite. However, this was a relatively short term benefit. Committing to an economy based on the availability of cheap imported labor, the South fell further behind the North in industrial development, and essentially became a third world society in comparison. This created a vicious cycle, which led to a greater and greater cultural divide with the North that eventually became untenable. The resulting effect of this economic choice was the devastation of the South which lasted generations.
The same choice is being made today, which will have similar disastrous effects. Aside from the export of capital equipment (i.e. factories) and Hollywood movies, our list of exports is on par with most third world nations. Every healthy economy relies on manufacturing. That has virtually disappeared. Importing cheap labor is chosen over technological improvement in the Capital vs. Labor equation. This has disastrous effects. It was the shortage of labor that led to America having the highest living standards in the world. While China produces engineers, the best we can do is produce lawyers. Who do you think comes out ahead in a war between engineers and lawyers. Think about it. Our economic policies are so heavily skewed toward encouraging consumption while at the same time they almost completely discourage capital creation in this country. This is absurd. It is a cannibalistic economic policy. But according to the handmaidens of this globalistic order, the free trade economists, if it wasn’t in our best interests, we wouldn’t be doing it. Circular? Economists seldom look at how policies benefit American citizens, but rather look at the system as a whole. Business is always looked at as producers, citizens usually only as consumers, and cheaper for both is the Holy Grail. Forget that the citizens are also producers and losses in wealth by stagnant or depressed wages and increases in taxes which then are transferred to illegals or go toward social programs for those displaced by this “shifting economy” are typically omitted. So to is the fact that benefits flowing to an American multinational corporation are not in and of itself beneficial to the general welfare of the United States since a considerable amount of those benefits are retained off shore or go to non-American investors. And lastly, other nations are completely gaming their economic/trade policies with respect to the US to take advantage of our naïve utopian ECON 101 trade policies.
And let’s not leave out the World Socialists, who’s agenda stands to benefit greatly from the nation’s demographic shift to a much larger immigrant population dependent on government assistance. With this much larger political base these groups are able to assert greater influence in shaping the policies of this nation. These policies will drift further and further to the left. How will that sit with the laissez-faire free trade Republican right who won’t quite fit onto one of the lifeboats as the USS America sinks into the abyss? Well I’m sure the Huntsman clan has a lovely retreat somewhere in Switzerland to get away from “hustle and bustle” (i.e. crime and chaos) that is the current state of Los Angeles but inevitably will becomes the rest of the nation. If you want a glimpse of the future, it’s LA. But what about the rest of us? Imagine a day that many alive today will see, a day with over 100 million Spanish speaking residents. When you have two dominant cultures, and language is probably the greatest determiner of cultural identity, existing within one political boundary you are bound to have problems. History has been very clear on this. Even in modern times: e.g. the Balkans. Even in seemingly enlightened nations: e.g. the seldom reported riots and unrest throughout Europe. And how about Quebec’s secessionist movement in 1996? It was barely defeated by less than 1% of the vote. And again how did Texas become American? Oh yeah, the Mexican government opened wide the doors to American immigrants. Unfortunately for Mexico, the overwhelming influx of this group of immigrants meant there was little pressure to assimilate to Mexican culture. This led to a rebellion, an insurgency, and loss of territory for Mexico.
The dramatic cultural shift In the United States that will be the result of these open border policies will be profound. Culture = Values. And Anglo-Protestant values have been the driver of our prosperity, counter to what many multiculturalists or cultural relativists may claim. Anglo-Protestant values are the basis of American values. These values are transferable to people of all races. The transfer of these values benefits the members of all races that adopt them. This is not a “Racist” issue. It is racist to assume “other” races can’t or shouldn’t have to assimilate to a culture that not only benefits the country as a whole but also benefits each member of the race that embraces it individually. There are countries all over the world share the same level of natural resources that we possess or exceed it. Mexico for example is rich with natural resources. It is culture that has held their societies back. It is impossible to instill these cultural values into the millions of immigrants coming to this country at the rate they coming. The culture of corruption pervasive in Mexican society is promoted here by rewarding illegals breaking the law. It is the first lesson we teach them. The senators today should not be going around patting themselves on the back for reinforcing that lesson. Charges of treason would be more appropriate.
So what's left for the average American worker? Well, we can keep flipping our houses, maybe? Or better, the rest of us can all get Law degrees, (it's not that hard, look how many lawyers we produce every year already), become "made" mafiosos by getting elected to political office, and extort what little is left over from those hard working Americans who actually contribute more to society than they siphon away. And how dare the congress try to limit the number of congressmen to some arbitrary number, we just want a piece of the congressional dream. We want to exist in a sanctuary immune to the rules of law that the rest of us have to abide by (see bipartisan circling of the wagons around D-Rep. Jefferson bribery scandal). The forces at work are overwhelming and unexpectedly aligned. Those behind it are a strange World Socialist/Global Capitalist Axis of Evil working to make the US Constitution obsolete. Imagine the world without the US Constitution, or a meaningless or ignored one. That is the situation these forces are creating. The powers have spoken. Americans, you will be assimilated.
