CES Video: Gadget of the day

Taser_2 You know what a bother it is to carry both your MP3 music player and your Taser gun?

Worry no more.

Today at CES, Taser International introduced the Taser MPH -- the first combination hand-held music player and Taser.

The player, which has a 1-GB capacity that can hold about 150 songs, is embedded in a holster that slips on your belt. Feel the need to zap someone and you can unholster the Taser, use the built-in laser pointer to aim, and blam -- a couple of darts carrying 50,000 volts hits your victim.

And you don't have to miss a beat.

The Taser MPH is not just a gadget, it's a fashion statement. The company is releasing it in several cover motifs, including leopard.

"It's fashion,  with a bite," said Taser International spokesman Stephen Tuttle.

What's next: The iPod gun, Blackberry Nunchucks, RAZR Razor?

Kirsten Engbjerg

This is down right scary! Combining a weapon of self-defence with modern colours an easy-listening? What's next? People will end up considering tasers and the implementation of them just another everyday thing - you go for bread, you put gas on your car, you taser some suspicious looking poerson and then you buy todays paper...

I used to think that Taser was a pretty goo idea, but this is sooo way out there that I would have denied is as implausible in fiction!

Ed

I want some taser socks for those dogs that chase me while bicycling...

ed

Boy, you sure want to make sure you plug the headphones into the right jack!

(Sorry if I'm having too much fun with this, but it is one of the most ridiculous [worthy of ridicule] things I have ever heard of.)

I have had a Taser for a couple of years. It's less Lethal that the 380 I carry, and less Lethal than the 38 Revolver I used to carry. I have carried for almost 40 years and my Gun has never shot anyone, and I have never had to use my Taser. Please people, apply some connon sense. Everyone is not a Criminal. I have these items to protect myself from Criminals. And I am a Male over 6' Tall and over 250lbs. Why do I need these? Because there is always some one that thinks they are bigger, stronger, or has an Axe to grind or a Habit to feed. I refuse to be a Victim. I don't go Wa Wa Wa all the way to the Police. Deal with it like a responsible Adult. Cars kill. Booze Kills, and so do Illegal Drugs and Illegal Aliens. When it is safe to do so, I will no longer carry. Not very likely I'll live long enough to see that day. And Tasers are Illegal to posess in some states. So don't have a fit over something that is not really new in the "Sel-Defense" market!

Nikola Tesla

Don't forget that every year a couple of people that get hit with these things die for one reason for another. A "Phaser" it's not.

Hello! Is this FOR REAL??? This is out of control. What kind of ridonkulous person came up w/ THIS??? Way to make a "super cool" gadget for people to carry around as an accessory... EXCEPT... wait for it.... IT's A FRIGGIN WEAPON that should only be used in cases of REAL DANGER. Putting a leopard print protector and some jams on it kinda sends a VIOLENCE IS CHILL, YO! kind of message. As a women, I don't like this at all, and would question anyone's sanity that does. Stick to some mace, or common sense. better yet, a combination. Also, for the record, listening to music while alone (on your awesome tazepod) is a great way to make yourself a target. Hello?!

The people who created this thing should be kidnapped and have their nuts tazed.

What a complete shame. They should be embarassed.

@ Larry:

If you've never used any of your incredibly scary weapons you carry with you, then why do you carry them?

I've lived most of my life in either Detroit or Los Angeles, and have never felt the desire to carry a weapon with me. Some people I guess are just afraid of their own shadow, and the rest of us aren't.

Adrian

@ Liz

men are not angry at this device.

we are angry at you; - women who think as you portray are a menace to both sexes. how many gynocentric manhaters are going to abuse this? or more egallistically speaking, how many "people" are going to misuse this?

this product is a bad idea for everyone shouldi t be easily available.

paulmct

See how much fun tasering can be? And what's to stop criminals from getting them to immobilize their victims, rendering them unable to resist or defend themselves?

later cliffhanger

"Don't taze me sis!"

pinko

Too late for some of your product ideas - there already is a Taser Cam, complete with "microphone and sensitive camera" that comes with "PC software that downloads firing records and audio/video files and stores them in a searchable library."

But wait, there's more! Now, the Taser Cam is also rechargeable for hours and hours of fun!

BTW, the Taser Cam is listed under the "consumer" products on the Taser International website, no law enforcement background or departmental authorization required http://www2.taser.com/products/consumers/Pages/TASERCAM.aspx

Be the first on YOUR block to have the Taser Cam! Get one today!

Have any of you stopped and realized how stupid most of you, not all of you, sound? Half of you are just looking for something to complain about. You say tasers are just of control, ahhh! I could walk into a pawn shop and leave 5 minutes later with a gun, or I could get a taser. Let us compare the dangers of the two options. I am a guy that likes only guys, if you are a girl, look out! I might try to rape you. I mean come on. And I really think there would be some legal consequences for those that tased everyone they saw, maybe assult. And I am sure I've stepped on some toes. Save your breath, I don't care. Next time stick your feet out.
